Hi, This blog is an amazing demonstration of Excel as a platform. One of Excel’s best qualities is the independent development environment it provides. Thanks to your blog, we can see how powerful and flexible it can be. Your chess viewer is, again, quite impressive especially not using any VBA to implement it. My only concern is that somebody might get too excited and decide to present their own games. The good news is that the task isn’t impossible since your viewer is based on “ICCF numeric notation”. Such flexibility is probably good enough for the purpose of this exercise. The bad news is that what is shown is, in fact, a mere sequence of pictures and the viewer has no chess knowledge whatsoever. The problem is that chess community is more used to sharing games in PGN format. If somebody is interested in doing that he/she can visit. Introduction Welcome to Excel VBA Chess- the 2 player hotseat version of the classic game coded with Excel VBA. Excel Chess was developed as a test of my VBA skills- I have certainly learnt a few tricks whilst coding, and hopefully have produced a playable version of the classic game. All Chess rules are modelled such as the original piece moves, check, absolute pin, checkmate, castling, pawn promotion and en passant. The commented code can be viewed by downloading the file, opening and pressing Alt + F11 to view the Visual Basic Editor (VBE). Please see About for further information on VBA modelling, code, version history and contact info. Download v1.01 - Minimum requirements: Excel 2007 or above. - When prompted click 'Save File', open the file and then click 'Enable Editing' and 'Enable Content' to ensure macro content is enabled before play.
